How many times in your life have you told yourself that you will write a book someday? I did since I was a teenager. Reading books was fun, but I always thought it would be a kick to write my book sometime in the future. I wrote a book eleven years ago and self-published it myself—all for the sake of doing just that. Much later on, I thought it was a waste of time and money since the book didn’t get much visibility and bring me much profit. This is probably the number one reason people don’t want to write a book or share a story hidden inside them.
Well, I have news to share! All the efforts on my first book were not a waste of time or money. It was an investment for me! I had a story inside me that I shared with the world, whether it had mass visibility or not. It built me up and gave me courage. I did it! That was all I wanted. At the time when my book was published, I was delighted and proud.
It was later that I realized that I needed to market my book. And this book was not going to sell by itself just because I published it and distributed it to bookstores. Marketing and advertising are the following steps to making your book visible to the masses. I learned that the hard way.
Although, putting it into perspective is the essence of this blog. I did regret I didn’t market my book, but knowing what I know now, it was not a complete loss. I still have my book and all my ideas intact. I can republish it with additional and updated information with a new book cover. Besides all the revisions, I realized that my story was still told and put into a book. I shall remain proud that I shared what I kept inside me.
If you have a story inside you, I highly recommend sharing and putting it into a book. Even if it’s just for yourself, it is out there and no longer inside you. So relinquish your story! Write to your heart’s content and share it with the world!
